What Adams Plus Flea & Tick Spray is

This is a ready-to-use trigger spray for on-animal flea and tick control. Etofenprox kills adult fleas and ticks on contact when used as directed. (S)-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (Precor) that helps stop flea eggs and larvae from developing, which is why Adams markets continuous protection against reinfestation for weeks after adult fleas are killed. Piperonyl butoxide is listed as a synergist on the ingredient statement.

Only about a small fraction of a home flea population lives on the pet. Adams recommends pairing on-pet treatment with premise products. We also carry Adams Plus Flea & Tick Shampoo and yard options such as Vet-Kem Yard Spray. For livestock premise fly control, see Permectrin II instead—that product is a farm insecticide, not this pet spray.

How to apply (label directions)

  1. Weigh the pet. Shake well before using.
  2. Do not use on puppies under 10 weeks or kittens under 12 weeks.
  3. For best results, ruffle the coat while spraying against the natural lay of the hair.
  4. Cover the eyes with your hand. With a firm, fast stroke, spray head, ears and chest. Spray ticks directly if you see them.
  5. With a cloth, rub the face around the mouth, nose and eyes.
  6. Spray the neck, middle and hindquarters, then legs and tail. Avoid rectum and genitals.
  7. Spray until the coat is damp, not saturated. Short-haired pets may need less than the 4-squeezes-per-pound guide; long-haired pets may need more.
  8. Do not allow pets to become chilled. Keep spray and damp pets off painted wood, leather, vinyl and other finished surfaces of concern.

Use restrictions

  • For indoor use only (per the Adams Plus retail label use restrictions).
