What KennelSol is
KennelSol is Alpha Tech Pet's original broad-spectrum kennel cleaner and disinfectant. Its EPA label describes it as a multi-purpose germicidal detergent and deodorant that disinfects, sanitizes, cleans and deodorizes in one labor-saving step when used according to the disinfection directions. The label lists kennels, pet shops, veterinary clinics, animal life science laboratories, breeding and grooming establishments, equine farms and households among its use sites.
Alpha Tech Pet describes KennelSol as having a near-neutral pH, says it will not corrode metals or stain surfaces and clothing, and gives it a wintergreen scent and a 3-year shelf life. KennelSol is a concentrate: one gallon makes about 64 gallons of use solution at the standard 2 oz per gallon, or about 14 gallons at the 9 oz per gallon parvovirus rate.
What KennelSol kills (from the EPA label)
All claims below are on hard, non-porous surfaces in the presence of 400 ppm hard water and 5% organic serum, with a 10-minute contact time unless noted.
- Dog and cat viruses: canine parvovirus (CPV type 2b) and rabies virus at 9 oz per gallon; canine distemper virus, canine coronavirus, canine influenza virus (H3N8), feline calicivirus and feline picornavirus at 2 oz per gallon.
- Other viruses include pseudorabies, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, avian influenza A (H3N2 and H5N1), avian infectious bronchitis, swine influenza A (H1N1), transmissible gastroenteritis (TGE), and SARS-CoV-2 (2-minute contact time).
- Bacteria include Bordetella bronchiseptica, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella species, E. coli (including O157:H7), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus including MRSA, Streptococcus species, Listeria monocytogenes and Klebsiella species.
- Fungi: Trichophyton interdigitale (formerly T. mentagrophytes; ringworm fungus) and Candida albicans.
- Mildew: mildewstatic against Aspergillus niger for up to 7 days.
- Sanitizer: a one-step sanitizer against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus in 3 minutes at 2 oz per gallon on hard, non-porous, non-food-contact surfaces.
Parasites such as Giardia and coccidia are not on the KennelSol label. An EPA-registered disinfectant can only be relied on for the organisms its label lists.

How to disinfect a kennel with KennelSol (label directions)
- Remove all animals and feed from the premises, animal transportation vehicles, crates and similar areas.
- Remove all litter, droppings and manure from floors, walls and surfaces.
- Thoroughly clean all surfaces with soap or detergent and rinse with water.
- Saturate surfaces until visibly wet with 2 oz of KennelSol per gallon of water, or 9 oz per gallon against canine parvovirus and rabies virus, using a cloth, mop, sponge, spray or soaking.
- Leave surfaces wet for 10 minutes. For spray applications, spray 6 to 8 inches from the surface. Do not breathe spray.
- Ventilate buildings and other closed spaces. Do not house animals or use equipment until the treatment has been absorbed, set or dried.
- Rinse surfaces that come in contact with food with potable water after use. Prepare a fresh solution daily or when it is visibly dirty.
Alpha Tech Pet recommends removing animals from areas you are cleaning, especially newborn puppies and kittens, and says it is safe to bring them back once KennelSol has dried or been completely rinsed away.
Safety, storage and disposal
- DANGER. Corrosive. The concentrate causes irreversible eye damage and skin burns, and is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Wear goggles, a face shield or safety glasses, protective clothing and rubber or chemical-resistant gloves. Avoid breathing spray mist.
- Keep out of reach of children. Store in the original container in areas inaccessible to children.
- Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal. The container is nonrefillable; do not reuse it. Follow the label for disposal.
- KennelSol is toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not discharge it into lakes, streams or ponds.

Frequently asked questions
Does KennelSol kill parvo?
Yes, at the right strength. The EPA label lists canine parvovirus (type 2b) at 9 oz of KennelSol per gallon of water (1:14) with a 10-minute contact time on pre-cleaned, hard, non-porous surfaces. The standard 2 oz per gallon is not the parvovirus rate.
Is the parvo dilution 8 oz or 9 oz per gallon?
The current EPA-accepted KennelSol label (October 2023) says 9 oz per gallon against canine parvovirus and rabies virus. Older material may say 8 oz. Follow the label on the bottle you receive.
Does KennelSol kill Giardia or coccidia?
Neither Giardia nor coccidia is listed on the KennelSol label. Only the organisms on the label are claimed. For questions about organisms not on the label, Alpha Tech Pet asks you to call 800-222-5537, and your veterinarian can advise on cleanup for parasites.
Does KennelSol kill ringworm?
The label lists Trichophyton interdigitale (formerly T. mentagrophytes), identified as the ringworm fungus, at 2 oz per gallon with a 10-minute contact time on hard, non-porous surfaces.
Does KennelSol kill kennel cough germs?
The label lists Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine influenza virus (H3N8) at 2 oz per gallon with a 10-minute contact time on hard, non-porous surfaces.
How long does KennelSol need to stay wet?
10 minutes for disinfection, including parvovirus at 9 oz per gallon. The label gives 2 minutes for SARS-CoV-2 and 3 minutes for one-step sanitizing at 2 oz per gallon.
Do I need to rinse after using KennelSol?
Not usually. The label says rinsing is not necessary unless floors are to be waxed or polished. Surfaces that come in contact with food must be rinsed with potable water after use.
Is KennelSol safe for dogs and cats?
The label says not to house animals or use equipment until the treatment has been absorbed, set or dried. Alpha Tech Pet recommends removing animals while you clean and says it is safe to bring them back once KennelSol has dried or been rinsed away. The concentrate is corrosive, so store it where animals and children cannot reach it.
Can I use KennelSol around newborn puppies?
Alpha Tech Pet says to remove animals from areas you are cleaning, and that this goes doubly for newborn puppies and kittens. Once KennelSol has dried or been completely rinsed away, Alpha Tech says it is safe to put the puppies back.
Can I clean food and water bowls with KennelSol?
Alpha Tech Pet says that is not what it is made for, but it is fine as long as you rinse the bowls. The label requires rinsing food-contact surfaces with potable water.
Can I use KennelSol on grass, gravel or dirt runs?
The label covers hard, non-porous surfaces only. Alpha Tech Pet says KennelSol will not harm turf or pea gravel, but because they are porous it cannot guarantee full efficacy there.
How long is mixed KennelSol good for?
The label says to prepare a fresh solution daily or when it is visibly dirty. Alpha Tech Pet says mop-bucket solution should be dumped and remixed at the end of the day or once it looks dirty.
How much KennelSol do I mix per spray bottle?
At the standard 2 oz per gallon, that works out to ½ fl oz (1 tablespoon) per quart of water. For parvovirus at 9 oz per gallon, it is 2¼ fl oz per quart. Label the bottle with the product name and dilution.
Is KennelSol the same as KennelSol HC?
No. KennelSol HC is a separate Alpha Tech Pet product with its own label. This page is the original KennelSol, EPA Reg. No. 62472-1.
