BRONCHI-SHIELD ORAL is a unique Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD) vaccine because it is the first live, avirulent Bordetella bronchiseptica vaccine licensed to be administered orally to dogs. BRONCHI-SHIELD ORAL offers the convenience of oral administration for mucosal absorption, making it one of the most innovative CIRD vaccines on the market. This product has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy dogs 8 weeks of age or older against Bordetella bronchiseptica. The duration of immunity for this product has not been established. For more information regarding the efficacy and safety data go to productdata.aphis.usda.gov.

Dosage and Administration: Rehydrate with the accompanying sterile diluent. Shake well and draw back into the syringe the required amount. Remove needle from syringe. Administer 1.0 mL orally in the buccal pouch. Use immediately.

The presence of maternal antibody is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in dogs and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. For advice on revaccination frequency and annual booster vaccinations, consultation with a veterinarian is recommended.

Proper oral administration

Caution: This product is designed for oral administration. Do not vaccinate dogs parenterally. Store in the dark at 2° to 8°C (35° to 46°F). Shake well after rehydration. Inactivate all unused contents before disposal. In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine. Do not mix with other products, except as specified on the label. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

Directions	Dosage and Administration: Bronchi-Shield^® Oral is labeled to be given to puppies 8 weeks of age or older. The vaccine cake is reconstituted with the supplied sterile water diluent and drawn into a syringe. Then, the needle is removed and 1 mL of vaccine is instilled into the buccal cavity. The vaccine is easy to administer and comfortable for the dog with no sneeze back. If the product is instilled anywhere in the buccal cavity (between the cheek and gum), it has been administered correctly. Bronchi-Shiel^® Oral is labeled for a 1 mL dose based on efficacy against Bordetella bronchiseptica in a challenge study. Any dog, large or small, can accommodate the 1 mL of fluid in its buccal cavity. For example, the dose of amoxicillin or liquid NSAID is about 1 mL for a dog less than 10 pounds. The vaccine is labeled for annual revaccination which is consistent with the AAHA Canine Vaccine Guidelines. Bronchi-Shield^® Oral is designed to be instilled into the buccal cavity of the dog's mouth. However, there is no concern if the dog swallows a small amount of Bronchi-Shield^® Oral, as this would be extremely difficult to prevent when administered. It's likely some of the challenge study dogs swallowed the product and they were still protected in challenge.
