Kopertox® is a hoof dressing for horses and ponies recommended as an aid in treating thrush due to organisms susceptible to the active ingredient copper naphthenate. Kopertox® provides antifungal, antiseptic and astringent properties to help eliminate fungal infection and restore hoof health. This product provides water-resistant protection and does not require bandaging.
Thrush can result in pain, puss or bleeding when the hoof is picked, and a foul-smelling discharge. This infection of the hoof is caused by anaerobic bacteria that thrive in environments with no oxygen, such as muddy conditions and dirty stall bedding. Horses and ponies subject to standing in these types of environments for long periods of time are at risk for developing thrush.
Remove debris and necrotic material from hooves before using Kopertox®. Apply daily to affected hooves with a small paint brush until fully healed. Do not allow runoff of excess product onto hair since contact may cause some hair loss.
