Salix is an oral diuretic prescribed by veterinarians in the treatment of edema associated with cardiac insufficiency and acute non-inflammatory tissue edema in dogs and cats.

Uses

Salix is an effective diuretic possessing a wide therapeutic range by promoting the rapid removal of excess fluid that can build up as a result of kidney failure, heart failure and other medical problems. It may also be used to treat high blood pressure.

Possible Side Effects

Your pet may experience dehydration, abnormal urine production, electrolyte imbalances, vomiting, weakness, increased heart rate, depression or restlessness. If any of the following side effects occur, or others that are not listed, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Drug & Food Interactions

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your dog is taking before starting this medication.

Ingredients

Furosemide, Lactose Monohydrate, Starch, Corn, Cellulose, Microcrystalline, Magnesium Stearate, FD&C Yellow No. 5.

Precautions

Do not use in animals who are allergic to sulfa drugs or furosemide. This medication may increase urination. Be cautious using Salix in animals with diabetes mellitus and kidney disease.

All Cats Weights The usual dose is 1-2 mg/lb of pet's body weight given once or twice daily (at 6 to 8 hour intervals) or as directed by your veterinarian. For the injectable solution, administer 1/4-1/2 ml per 10 lbs body weight once or twice daily (at 6 to 8 hour intervals) or as directed by your veterinarian.
