What Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi is
Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi is Merck Animal Health's oral vaccine against two common causes of kennel cough (canine infectious respiratory disease): the bacterium Bordetella bronchiseptica (avirulent live culture) and canine parainfluenza virus (modified live virus). It is given by mouth, not by injection or into the nose.
Merck says its proprietary formulation and patented Immuno-Mist-R™ applicator make the oral Bb and Pi combination possible. The applicator twists onto the Luer-lock syringe and delivers the vaccine as a fine mist toward the back of the mouth.

What Merck says about Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi
Merck Animal Health states the following on its official product page (data on file, Merck Animal Health):
- Coughing. In a challenge study, 21 dogs given one 1 mL oral dose and 21 dogs given a placebo were challenged 5 weeks after vaccination. Merck reports a 5 times shorter duration of coughing related to B. bronchiseptica in vaccinated dogs compared with controls.
- Shedding. Merck reports a 4 times shorter duration of canine parainfluenza virus shedding and significantly reduced long-term bacterial shedding compared with controls in its challenge studies.
- Mucosal coverage. Merck says the Immuno-Mist-R applicator provides broad mucous membrane surface coverage and stimulates an effective antibody response.

Who Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi is for
The label covers healthy dogs 7 weeks of age or older. Per the label:
- Vaccinate only healthy, non-parasitized dogs. Talk with your veterinarian about deworming first. See our dog dewormers.
- This product has not been tested in pregnant animals.
- The use of a biological product may produce anaphylaxis or other hypersensitivity reactions. The label lists epinephrine, corticosteroids and antihistamines as antidotes, depending on the nature and severity of the reaction.
How to give Nobivac Intra-Trac Oral BbPi (label directions)
- Transfer the contents of the sterile diluent vial into the vaccine vial aseptically, and mix gently until dissolved.
- Draw the vaccine back into the provided Luer lock syringe.
- Remove the needle. Attach the Immuno-Mist-R™ applicator, making sure it is securely attached to the Luer lock fitting.
- Administer 1 mL orally toward the back of the mouth.
The label says the need for a booster vaccination has not been established; contact your veterinarian or the manufacturer about revaccination frequency. Use new, non-chemically sterilized needles and Luer lock syringes. Do not mix with other products, except as specified on the label. Indications: This product has been shown to be effective for vaccination of healthy dogs 7 weeks of age or older against canine parainfluenza virus and Bordetella bronchiseptica.
